Science

In an era in which opinion- and policy-makers, commentators and other pundits, journalists and other media folks, politicians and business people make very public claims without any evidence whatsoever and in a world in which wishful thinking is a form of excellence, the pursuit of science is a welcome reprieve. The truly scary fact is that the great majority of the population do not understand the scientific method even though science permeates just about every aspect of modern human existence. The last time I and too many others got exposed to Newton's laws of motion, the types of chemical bonds, the process of photosynthesis and other aspects of the natural sciences was in secondary school. I've now corrected this sad state of affairs and returned to university to catch up on what's happening in the real world around us.
